At the bottom of the sales lead totem pole stands cold leads or raw data. Everyone in sales has been put through the punishment of "cold-calling" or "telemarketing". The truth is, these are random, unqualified, and mostly uninterested people who you have to pitch your product to and develop an interest.
Most leads are somewhat qualified or showed some general interest in your product, but not these puppies. Cold leads can be anything from picking up a phone book, dialing random numbers, using data lists, contacting title companies, or pulling county records. Most of these "cold" people are going about their daily life when they get a phone call from you, then its your job to convince them to not only stay on the phone with you, but also that you provide an important and valuable product or service that they need, then convincing them to buy. Now that's a tough task for ANYONE selling ANY product or service!
This stuff is for the most part very unproductive and should only be used in a few times of situations... namely being: Training for new people looking to get warm to the idea of talking to people on the phone, a general product or service that does not pertain to any "niche" market, or an auto dialer system where you do not have a person manually dialing people, but a computer system that connects only people who ask for further information from a live person.
All in all, unless you like close ratios of less than 1% and spending countless unproductive hours talking to people who would rather swallow their phone than talk to you on it, then I'd suggest completely staying away from this type of marketing.
There are way better ways to spend your time, money, and resources, which we'll cover.
